VHS video tape cassettes

How to prepare videotapes for digital capture

So, you were spring cleaning and found that dusty box of videotape memories in the back of your closet or garage. You no longer have a VCR and can’t bear the thought of losing those precious video memories. What do you do? Get your tapes captured and digitized by archive professionals.

Step 1: Dust off your tapes and separate home videos from hollywood films.

Step 2: Count your home videos, noting format. Ex: 45 VHS, 5 VHS-C, 12 MiniDV.

Step 3: Call, Text or Email Kouv.org, get a quote, and schedule tape drop off.

Step 4: (optional) – If you want your tapes captured in a certain order, number them. If not, we will number them for you so you can know which digital video file matches which tape.

Step 5: Drop off your tapes and let out a sigh of relief. Your tapes are being preserved in a digital format. You may provide an external hard drive or thumb drive at this time.

Step 6: If you like, Kouv.org will create a complimentary private digital dropbox, where you can view and download videos as we work on your project. You can expect to see 5-10 videos appear per day.

Step 7: When the capture is complete, we will set a pick-up appointment.

That’s It! You captured your memories and can share files with your family and friends.

Step 8: (optional) We also offer editing services if you want to combine revised footage into shorter videos with your explicit guidance.
